Existing Truck drivers:

Existing truck drivers who hold a full licence before the 10th September 2009 will automatically acquire rights and will get their CPC licence without having to take a further test.

But in order to keep their CPC current they will have to complete 35 hours of training over a five year period. This must be taken as 7 hours  per year and must be taken in one day. This is a training  day and will not involve any exams.

New Truck Drivers:

For all new drivers who will do their driving test after the 10th September you will have to do the CPC exam, which will be in addition to your driving test.

The layout of the Exams will be as follows:

Truck Theory Test----this is the current theory test

CPC theory test----- this will be an extra multiple choice and case studies

The driving test----- the normal driving test

CPC practical  test--- this is usually done after driving test

You will still have to complete your 35  hours of training over a 5 year period after this.
